Military Family Appreciation Month: GreenCare for Troops Delivers Year-Round Support to Those Who Serve

Project EverGreen Honors Military Family Appreciation Month — Thank You to Those Who Serve and Support

Every lawn tells a story. Some whisper weekend barbecues, kids’ games, dogs racing after tennis balls. Others feel quieter, waiting for noise and activity to return. For thousands of military families, that joy pauses when a loved one is deployed. The household routine shifts. The emotional weight grows. Even the yard, once a simple comfort, becomes another source of stress.

As we recognize Military Family Appreciation Month in November, Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops and SnowCare for Troops programs continue to transform those yards back into places of comfort, connection, and community. Volunteers across the country provide complimentary lawn, landscape, and snow removal services to the families of deployed military personnel. It’s a simple act with extraordinary impact. For green industry professionals, it’s also a powerful way to honor those who serve and to help their families flourish.

The Gift of a Healthy Green Space

A vibrant green space is more than a slice of nature. Research consistently shows that time outdoors can lower stress, improve mental well-being, and bring communities closer together. When a spouse or parent is deployed, these benefits become immeasurably important.

Families with access to healthy lawns and landscapes enjoy:

  • A restorative escape from daily pressure
  • A safe place for children to play and burn off energy
  • A gathering space for friends, neighbors, and support networks
  • A visual reminder that they are not alone during deployment

The simple act of mowing a lawn or clearing a driveway can create a ripple effect of calm and connection. Volunteers help restore a piece of normalcy and ensure outdoor spaces can continue to bring joy.

A Chance to Step Up for Those Who Step Forward

Volunteering for GreenCare or SnowCare for Troops is a tangible expression of gratitude to the families who give so much. It’s a service that speaks loudly without saying a word. Many participating contractors share that the experience becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their work year after year.

Here’s what volunteers often tell us:

  • It feels good to give back. Knowing your skills directly lift up a family shouldering the weight of deployment feels like a privilege.
  • It builds a stronger team. Employees take pride in service work and appreciate representing a company that invests in community.
  • It connects businesses to their local communities. Stronger relationships grow from compassion.
  • It honors the military in a way only this industry can. A well-kept yard can brighten days and lighten loads.

Many families form lasting friendships with their volunteers. Some volunteers even attend homecoming celebrations, witnessing firsthand the joy of reunion. Those moments stick with you.

A Light Lift with a Big Impact

Contractors tell us that the commitment is manageable. Most volunteers help one or two families during a deployment cycle. You choose the services that fit your capabilities and time constraints -mowing, trimming, basic landscaping, or snow removal – and Project EverGreen matches you with a nearby family.

We support you every step of the way with:

  • Clear communication
  • Program resources
  • Flexible participation options

Your time and expertise are the heart of the mission.

Be the Difference in Someone’s Season

Military families sacrifice daily for our nation’s safety and freedom. Offering a beautifully maintained yard or a cleared driveway during deployment is more than a service, it’s a lifeline of comfort.

When you volunteer, you help transform outdoor spaces into places that nurture resilience, hope, and togetherness. You remind families that their community sees them, appreciates them, and stands ready to support them.

Help us grow greener, stronger communities rooted in gratitude.
