Volunteer-powered from the very beginning, Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program was built on a simple but powerful idea: when military families are carrying the burden of deployment, they shouldn’t have to carry the burden of lawn and landscape care alone.
As GreenCare for Troops Awareness Month returns this June, the mission feels more important than ever.
In 2026, GreenCare for Troops celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of support for military families through free lawn, landscape and snow removal services donated by green industry professionals across the country. What started as a grassroots effort in 2006 has grown into a nationwide movement powered by compassion, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to those who serve.
And the need continues to grow.
Since January, 387 military families have registered for support through GreenCare for Troops. At the same time, 48 new volunteers have stepped forward to answer the call and provide services in communities nationwide.
Those numbers tell an important story.

A military family enjoys time together at home while volunteers with Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program help ease the burden of deployment through free lawn and landscape care services.
They reflect the continued sacrifices military families make every day and the growing demand for reliable support at home during deployments. They also highlight the dedication of lawn care, landscape and snow professionals who continue to give their time, equipment and expertise to make a difference one property, one family and one season at a time.
For military families, GreenCare for Troops is about far more than mowing lawns or maintaining landscapes. It’s about peace of mind. It’s about creating safe, healthy outdoor spaces where children can play, families can recharge and spouses can focus on navigating the realities of deployment without another task added to an already overwhelming list.
Over the past 20 years, GreenCare for Troops volunteers have donated an estimated $20 million in services while supporting more than 20,000 military families in all 50 states.
That impact simply would not be possible without the loyalty and generosity of the program’s volunteers.
Many participating companies have supported military families for years, often serving the same families throughout multiple deployments. Their commitment reflects the best of the green industry professionals using their skills to strengthen communities while honoring military service in a meaningful and practical way.
Volunteers also frequently describe the program as transformative for their own teams and company culture. Employees take pride in knowing their daily work contributes to something bigger than business. The result is stronger community connection, deeper employee engagement and a shared sense of purpose.
The continued success of GreenCare for Troops also depends on the sponsors and industry partners who provide critical support to sustain and grow the program.
Project EverGreen recognizes the ongoing support of Title Sponsor Nufarm and SnowCare for Troops sponsor BOSS Snowplow, along with Platinum Partners Toro, SiteOne Landscape Supply and Heritage Landscape Supply. Additional support from Silver Partner Arborjet/Ecologel, affiliate partners and countless industry organizations continues to strengthen the reach and reliability of the program nationwide.
As part of this milestone year, GreenCare for Troops is also expanding services to disabled veterans in select states and adding irrigation maintenance and seasonal irrigation services to better meet the evolving needs of military and veteran families.
Awareness Month in June serves as both a celebration of impact and a reminder that more volunteers, sponsors and advocates are still needed.
One of the biggest ways supporters can get involved this year is through Project EverGreen’s You Move, We Mow Challenge taking place June 21-27 during GreenCare for Troops Awareness Week.
The nationwide fundraiser encourages participants to commit to 20,000 steps in honor of 20 years of GreenCare for Troops service. Whether participants walk, run, bike, hike or mow the lawn, every step helps raise awareness and funding to support military families nationwide.
The challenge reflects the spirit of the program itself – simple actions creating meaningful impact.
Funds raised through You Move, We Mow help expand services to more military families, strengthen the growing volunteer network and ensure families continue receiving reliable, high-quality care for the outdoor spaces they depend on every day.
Participants are encouraged to register now before the June 21-27 event and invite coworkers, family members and friends to join the movement. The first 100 registrants will also receive a commemorative 20th anniversary GreenCare for Troops hat sponsored by AMGUARD Environmental Technologies.
As GreenCare for Troops enters its third decade, the mission remains clear: support military families, strengthen communities and create healthier, greener outdoor spaces that make life a little easier for those sacrificing so much.
Every volunteer matters. Every sponsor matters. Every step matters.
