October was a good month to be a military family participating in Project EverGreen’s GreenCare or SnowCare for Troops program as volunteer numbers increased sharply to meet the growing demand.
Nearly 100 landscape contractors, lawn care and snow management professionals registered to provide complimentary lawn care, basic landscape or snow removal services for families of deployed military personnel across the United States.
“We are very pleased with our October volunteer recruitment efforts,” says Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. “It is a testament to the generosity of landscape, lawn care and snow management professionals to support the program and expands our ability to serve military families.”
The recruitment efforts were boosted by Project EverGreen’s presence at the GIE + EXPO in Louisville, the green industry’s leading trade show, and through the support of lead sponsor Nufarm, platinum partners Toro and SiteOne Landscape Supply, and silver partner Arborjet/Ecologel.
GreenCare for Troops marks its 13th year in 2019 and has seen more than 11,000 military families register to receive an estimated $8 million in donated lawn care and landscape services from more than 7,000 green industry professionals.
“Volunteering is a great way to support military families and and the community as a whole,” adds Code. “The need for volunteers continues to grow nationwide and we want companies and individuals to step up and not only share their talents with military families who need a hand, but their passion for green spaces as well.”
