Pratt’s Lawn and Landscape: Rooted in Service and Giving Back Through GreenCare for Troops
Phillip and Martha Jane Pratt founded Pratt’s Lawn and Landscape in 1993. Today, the Georgetown, Kentucky-based company provides commercial turf and landscape care, snow removal, and design and installation services. On the residential side, Pratt’s specializes in fertilizer and chemical applications for lawns and flower beds.
While the company’s longevity is a testament to its exceptional service, the Pratts have always made community service a priority.
“We’re always the company that locals come to when help is needed, and we’re proud that our ownership encourages us to get involved as much as possible,” said Travis Sand, the company’s business manager.
One of Pratt’s strongest commitments is to Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program, which they have supported for more than a decade.

The Pratt’s Lawn and Landscape team celebrates the Fourth of July as well as military families by volunteering for GreenCare for Troops.
“We’re extremely grateful to our armed forces for the work they do for us, and providing lawn care services to families dealing with a deployment is just a small token of our appreciation for the sacrifice they make,” Sand said.
Although mowing is not typically part of Pratt’s residential services, the team offers the full range of lawn and landscape care to military families, ensuring their yards remain a source of pride and peace of mind while a loved one is away.
A Local News Surprise
Sand recently met with Pratt Lawn and Landscape’s first 2025 volunteer family, the Methenys, who the company will support during Nick’s nine-month deployment. Bailey, who will be home alone while her husband serves, requested regular mowing and flower bed treatments.
That same evening, the Pratt team was surprised to see themselves featured on the local news. LEX18, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, paid a visit to the Metheny home to highlight the impact of GreenCare for Troops and Pratt’s role in making a difference.
“They asked us what we needed done – there were no limitations or anything, so that was really nice,” said Bailey Metheny. “I would love to get the word out on GreenCare for Troops because I know, especially for a lot of people in Nick’s station who have children and are becoming single moms for the next nine months, it’s one less thing for them to think about.”
“We were not aware they were going to contact the television station, but we were super excited they did,” added Sand, who soon after ordered GreenCare for Troops decals for the entire company fleet. “We’re still a family business and a giver in this community, and we’re always ready to do whatever we can to help those in need.”
The Power of Volunteering
Stories like Pratt’s Lawn and Landscape remind us of the powerful ripple effect that volunteering can create. A simple act of generosity – mowing a lawn, weeding a flower bed – can ease a burden for a military family and bring peace of mind during challenging times.
For businesses, volunteering is more than just service; it’s a chance to strengthen community ties, uplift those who serve our country, and inspire others to step forward. As Pratt’s has shown, when local companies give back, they plant seeds of trust, compassion, and hope that grow far beyond a single yard.
Why Green Spaces Matter for Military Families
For military families, green spaces are far more than just grass and trees. They represent comfort, stability, and a vital sense of home during times of uncertainty. With frequent moves, long deployments, and ever-changing routines, these families often face challenges that few others experience. A well-maintained yard, a local park, or a vibrant community landscape can offer a much-needed place to relax, recharge, and reconnect.
Green spaces provide emotional and physical relief, especially for children and spouses navigating life while a loved one serves. They become safe, welcoming environments where families can gather, play, and simply enjoy a moment of peace.
But the benefits of green spaces extend beyond emotional wellness. These areas help cool urban environments, reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, and promote community resilience. In short, healthy landscapes help build healthier neighborhoods.
Through GreenCare for Troops and GreenCare for Communities, Project EverGreen, along with our dedicated nationwide network of professional volunteers, ensures that military families have access to these essential outdoor spaces. By providing free lawn and landscape care, we not only enhance the environment, but we also offer families a tangible reminder that their service and sacrifice are recognized and supported.
Because when we invest in green spaces, we invest in stronger families, healthier communities, and a better quality of life for those who protect our country.
