Greenway went the extra mile to promote the GreenCare for Troops program, taking customized literature to local fall and spring festivals that the company sponsors.

“I feel like we are able to give back something … it may not be a whole bunch, but it is something that we can do. The grass has to be cut no matter what, and the help we provide shows that we appreciate the sacrifice of military families in this community.” – Aaron Beams, Greenway Landscape Services

Greenway Landscape Services offers full-service grounds maintenance, from mowing and tree care to irrigation and hardscape, as well as snow removal in winter. Owner Aaron Beams started out working for his stepdad as the first employee of a new landscape maintenance business in 2001, and after a 10-month hiatus in 2011 he got the opportunity to buy the business and set his own course in 2012.

Aaron Beams of Greenway Landscape Services actively promotes his company’s participation in GreenCare for Troops and recruits others to join the cause.

Beams went after the business hard that first year, working to rebuild what was lost during the recession in 2008 and 2009. By the time his first winter hit, he was able to hire two guys and hasn’t looked back.

“In season, about nine months of the year, we employ 30 to 32 people,” says Beams. “We keep 10 to 12 on board all year and keep them as busy as we can in the winter months.”

Beams has been involved in GreenCare for Troops for more than two years and has performed basic turf and landscape maintenance for five military families.

“I feel like we are able to give back something … it may not be a whole bunch, but it is something that we can do,” says Beam. “The grass has to be cut no matter what, and the help we provide shows that we appreciate the sacrifice of military families in this community.”

In 2019, Greenway Office Manager Melissa Harrison-Ballou went the extra mile to promote the GreenCare for Troops program, taking customized literature to local fall and spring festivals that Greenway sponsors.

“The idea was to encourage other lawn care and landscape professionals to volunteer for GreenCare for Troops, and to create awareness among military families of the program’s existence,” adds Beams.

The company also promotes their involvement with GreenCare for Troops prominently on their website.

Beams also brought the program to the attention of the Kentuckiana Landscape Maintenance Association, a local professional group of 30 business owners, to encourage participation.

Both grandparents, along with several uncles and cousins were or are currently serving in the military, so Beams’ service to military families is a natural fit. And, he’s looking forward to helping more families in the season ahead.
