Executive Director’s Message – Why We Volunteer

Are you ready to engage with Project EverGreen and volunteer to support our mission and programs? Step right up.

“Volunteering and collaboration are the heart and soul of all our programs. People volunteer for many reasons. For some, it’s a chance to give back to their community in which they reside or earn a living. For others, it’s about the people and making a difference in someone’s life.”

Cindy Code
Executive Director
Project EverGreen

Happy New Year. Like many of you, we’re ready to put 2020 well in the rearview mirror and focus on more positive vibes for 2021. The past year has been unlike any other both in our business and personal lives.

Volunteers at New York City's Clinton Community Garden renovation project - Project EverGreen

Landscape industry volunteers and neighborhood residents came together to upgrade Clinton Community Garden.

Throughout the pandemic – and faced with a lot of uncertainty – Project EverGreen’s diverse community of volunteers made so much happen. Despite the inability to collaborate in person in significant numbers for our GreenCare for Communities projects, our volunteers found ways to provide hope to their neighbors through parks, gardens and thriving outdoor green spaces.

Volunteering and collaboration are the heart and soul of all our programs. People volunteer for many reasons. For some, it’s a chance to give back to their community in which they reside or earn a living. For others, it’s about the people and making a difference in someone’s life.

Why do people volunteer and give back?

  1. Personal tie to a cause
  2. To help others
  3. To make a difference
  4. To connect with your community
  5. To feel involved
  6. To develop new skills or build on existing experience
  7. To build or enhance a resume
  8. To set a good example for others
  9. To meet like-minded, motivated people
  10. To gain unique and exciting opportunities
  11. To gain a greater perspective and self-awareness
  12. Simply put, it’s good for you.

Project EverGreen encourages you to get involved in 2021.  Join our mission and programs to connect individuals and communities together through healthy parks and green spaces that provide so much more than pretty aesthetics including socialization, happiness, clean air, health and wellness to name a few.

We have interesting projects on tap this year including Detroit, New York City and Cleveland. And our GreenCare and SnowCare for Troops programs continue to offer expanded services to healthcare heroes.

Join the conversation see how you can get involved. I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks

Cindy Code
