SnowCare for Troops Program Celebrates Awareness Month in January
Project EverGreen’s SnowCare for Troops Program Helps Military Families Weather the Winter
In the uncertain times that accompany a deployment, military families face unique challenges, including snow and ice removal, which is essential for keeping up with daily activities like getting kids to school, arriving at work on time, or making important appointments. The need for assistance has never been greater.
Helping to meet this critical need is Project EverGreen’s SnowCare for Troops program, which provides complimentary snow and ice removal services, delivering peace of mind to families of deployed military personnel.
Together with program sponsor BOSS Snowplow, Project EverGreen proudly announces National SnowCare for Troops Awareness Month this January 2025. This initiative highlights and celebrates the invaluable efforts of volunteers across the country.
“The need to assist military families with snow removal services continues to grow, and SnowCare for Troops is committed to being there,” said Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. “With the ongoing support of our thousands of volunteers and our program sponsor, BOSS Snowplow, we remain dedicated to expanding this program and providing the support families need during deployments.”
15 Years of Support for Military Families
Now celebrating its 15th year, SnowCare for Troops has grown beyond simply clearing driveways and sidewalks. It serves as a lifeline for military families, helping them maintain independence and navigate daily routines involving family, work, and school. Volunteers—including professional contractors, community groups, and individuals—generously donate their time, equipment, and materials to assist military families in need.
A Story of Impact
The impact of this program is deeply felt by the families it serves. Erin Pritchard, a military spouse from suburban Columbus, Ohio, discovered the GreenCare and SnowCare for Troops programs just before her husband’s year-long overseas deployment.
Through the program, Erin was matched with Cedric Owens of Steel Cuts Lawn & Landscaping, who provided care for her property throughout the deployment.
“He was so great and so helpful, and he never batted an eye about the size of the property when he walked it with me,” Erin shared.
One moment stood out for Erin. On the day of her husband’s departure, she drove eight hours in the dead of winter to drop him off and returned home to worsening weather. Heavy snow and ice quickly made her driveway impassable.
“I thought I might be trapped in the house,” Erin recalled tearfully. “But then I looked outside and saw Cedric and one of his workers clearing and de-icing the driveway. I immediately felt so cared for—they were so helpful and so great!”
Erin later learned Cedric would also handle her lawn care, providing more support than she ever expected.
Delivering Peace of Mind Nationwide
Together with its sister program, GreenCare for Troops, SnowCare for Troops has provided an estimated $20 million in donated lawn, landscape, and snow removal services to thousands of military families across the country.
“At BOSS Snowplow, we’re proud to continue supporting the SnowCare for Troops program, especially as we see the real difference it makes for military families across the country,” said Katie Roell, marketing manager, at BOSS Snowplow. “By providing snow removal services, we aim to ease the burden on these families so they can focus on what matters most, while we show our deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by our service members and their loved ones.”

Why are snow removal services important to military families?
Snow removal services from SnowCare for Troops offer practical, emotional, and safety benefits, making life a little easier for military families during deployment.
- Reduced Stress for Families: When a military member is deployed, the spouse or family left behind often must manage all household responsibilities alone. SnowCare for Troops ensures that this aspect of home maintenance is taken care of, reducing stress and freeing up time for other responsibilities, such as childcare or work.
- Safety: Snow and ice can create hazardous conditions, making it difficult or dangerous to leave the home. Snow removal ensures that driveways, sidewalks, and entryways are cleared, reducing the risk of accidents for family members, especially children and elderly relatives.
- Time Management: Many military families have young children or other demanding responsibilities. Snow removal can be time-consuming and physically exhausting. The SnowCare for Troops program allows families to focus on daily tasks, especially when time is already stretched thin due to the absence of the deployed family member.
- Community Support: Snow removal services provided by SnowCare for Troops can be a meaningful way to support families facing the challenges of deployment. These services offer tangible help and show solidarity with the sacrifices these families make.
- Health and Wellness: Physical exertion involved in clearing snow, particularly during heavy snowfalls, can pose a health risk, especially for family members who may not be accustomed to such labor. SnowCare for Troops services ensure that families aren’t put at risk of injury or exhaustion.
