Project EverGreen Set to Complete Clinton Community Garden Project

Turning the Big Apple Green One Lot At A Time

Project EverGreen returns to New York City to help revitalize Clinton Community Garden on the city’s Lower East Side and create an area where neighborhood residents can gather, get to know their neighbors, cool off from the city heat and grow shade plants and fresh vegetables. The garden is located at 171 Stanton St.

Phase II of the Clinton Community Garden renovation project is set for completion June 12-13.

The first phase of the project, completed in November 2018, included a new gravel entry path into the garden, regraded the site to eliminate standing water, built new planter boxes and added soil to the planters.

In phase two, scheduled to be completed for June 12-13, a shade garden including ornamental shrubs, flowers and vegetable plants will be planted, a new planter box installed and a new patio with pavers will be designed and built.

Project EverGreen is working with the NYC Parks/Green Thumb Department, Con Edison and Mount Sinai Health Systems to revitalize parks, gardens and vacant lots in all five NYC boroughs.

The Clinton Community Garden marks the third NYC endeavor for Project EverGreen. In 2017, they transformed a previously vacant lot in East Harlem into a new, sustainable fruit and vegetable garden and community park for The Neighbors of Vega Baja Association. The renovation provided sustainable healthy food and environmental, economic, and social benefits to neighborhood residents.

In 2015, Project EverGreen coordinated a project that revitalized the 9/11 Memorial Grove on Liberty Island. The grove was devastated by Hurricane Sandy’s  storm surge that sent five feet of saltwater onto the site. Project EverGreen and an array of volunteers planted London Plane trees in June of that year.
