Restoring Play and Community at Corinth Community Park

As part of Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Communities initiative, volunteers, professional contractors, and community partners are teaming up to revitalize the baseball and surrounding athletic fields at Corinth Community Park in Corinth, Texas. This collaborative effort will transform a well-loved but aging space into a safer, more functional, and environmentally healthier green asset for local families, athletes, and residents to enjoy.

The comprehensive renovation includes rebuilding the home plate area and pitcher’s mound to regulation standards, replacing bases and anchors, grading and resurfacing the infield and outfield, and installing fresh TifTuf Bermuda sod across the playing surface. Using precision laser grading and professional-quality clay, infield mix, and conditioners, the project will enhance playability, improve drainage, and eliminate uneven areas that can cause injuries. Updated irrigation and careful turf management will ensure the fields remain durable, attractive, and sustainable for years to come.

Beyond the technical upgrades, the project underscores the vital role that healthy green spaces play in a community’s well-being. Safe, accessible athletic fields encourage physical activity and teamwork, while lush green turf naturally cools the environment, filters stormwater, and improves local air quality. These benefits extend far beyond the ballfield—creating a space where residents can connect, children can play, and community spirit can thrive.

This GreenCare for Communities renovation is made possible through the collective efforts of Project EverGreen, the City of Corinth, and dedicated partners from the Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) and the Texas Sports Field Management Association (TXSFMA). Their expertise, resources, and volunteer commitment exemplify how collaboration across industries can create greener, healthier, and more connected communities. The renewed fields at Corinth Community Park will stand as a shining example of teamwork in action—restoring both the land and the spirit of play it supports.

Project EverGreen’s Impact

Parks, lawns, landscapes, and maintained green spaces help mitigate temperature increases in communities and significantly reduce energy use and cooling costs. Since 2008, Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Communities initiative has renovated community parks and public green spaces totaling more than 200 million square feet of living green space.

Through its nationwide network of professional volunteers, Project EverGreen connects people, plants, and their communities to maximize the health of grass, plants, and trees, sequestering carbon, cleaning the air, and creating healthier, more sustainable environments. Maintained green spaces function as the lungs of the city, offsetting the effects of a warming climate and providing safe, beautiful places for people to gather, play, and grow together.

Project Scope

  • Field Survey & Layout:
Laser-level survey to establish accurate grades and precise layout of the infield, bases, home plate, and pitching mound.

  • Home Plate & Pitcher’s Mound Reconstruction:
Install new regulation home plate and pitching rubbers; rebuild both areas with premium moisturized clay (DuraPitch, Turface, or Diamond Pro), compacted in layers for stability and durability.

  • Infield & Base Installation:
Replace all base anchors and install new permanent or breakaway bases at 80′ and 90′; regrade and resurface the entire infield with new infield mix and conditioner for consistent playability.

  • Grass Removal & Sod Installation:
Remove existing turf from the infield, foul territory, and perimeter areas; install fresh TifTuf Bermuda sod (Big Roll) across approximately 17,000 square feet, creating a seamless transition between grass and infield skin.

  • Bullpen Upgrades:
Rebuild both bullpens with new pitching rubbers, home plates, and properly graded landing and catcher’s areas using professional-grade clay and infield mix.

  • Outfield Restoration:
Repair worn or weedy turf areas, adjust irrigation heads, add topsoil where needed, resod approximately 3,000 square feet, and aerate and topdress existing turf for improved root health and water infiltration.

  • Safety & Sustainability Enhancements:
Precision grading and professional turf practices will improve player safety, drainage, and surface consistency while reducing maintenance needs and promoting a healthier, more sustainable playing environment.
