About the Project
Bringing New Life to the Tyler Adams Soccer Pitch
For generations, Martz Field has been a place where families gathered, children played and neighbors connected. Located in the heart of Wappinger, New York, the park had long served as an important community green space. But years of limited maintenance had left the athletic field overrun with invasive weeds and unable to provide the safe, high-quality playing surface the community deserved.
Project EverGreen, in partnership with Scotts and other green industry partners, changed that.
Through this GreenCare for Communities renovation, the park’s primary athletic field was restored and officially named the Tyler Adams Soccer Pitch in honor of Wappingers Falls native and U.S. Men’s National Team captain Tyler Adams, who developed his love of the game on these very fields.
The transformation began with the removal of weed-infested vegetation and careful site preparation to establish a healthy, thriving stand of natural turfgrass. The former baseball infield was regraded and rebuilt with quality screened topsoil, creating a smooth, uniform surface designed specifically to support soccer and other recreational activities.
As part of the renovation, outdated baseball infrastructure, including the home plate, pitching rubber and base anchors, was removed to create a dedicated soccer pitch while preserving flexible space for informal games, youth activities and everyday neighborhood recreation.
Today, the Tyler Adams Soccer Pitch provides local athletes and families with a safer, healthier place to play while honoring one of the community’s own. Together with its partners, Project EverGreen restored more than an athletic field. It created a lasting community asset that will inspire the next generation of players, strengthen community connections and serve Wappinger for years to come.
Keep It Real: Growing Better Fields, Stronger Communities
The Martz Field renovation is the second GreenCare for Communities project completed in 2026 through Project EverGreen’s collaboration with ScottsMiracle-Gro’s Keep It Real initiative. The first project transformed the baseball field at the Yawkey Boys & Girls Club of Roxbury in Boston, where volunteers from the New England Sports Field Management Association restored an aging field into a safer, healthier place for youth sports.

The connection to Martz Field is especially meaningful. Tyler Adams, captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team and a native of Wappingers Falls, spent countless hours playing on Martz Field while growing up. Today, Adams is helping champion the Keep It Real initiative, encouraging communities to recognize the value of natural grass playing fields and invest in the places where young athletes develop their skills, build friendships, and discover a lifelong love of sports.
Through the Keep It Real sweepstakes, ScottsMiracle-Gro provides funding for community field renovations while Project EverGreen brings together landscape professionals, sports field experts, volunteers, and local partners to transform deserving athletic fields. Together, these organizations are creating safer playing surfaces, healthier green spaces, and places where future generations of children, including the next Tyler Adams, can learn, play, and thrive.
Tyler Adams Soccer Pitch Clean Air Impact
The newly restored Tyler Adams Soccer Pitch is doing more than creating a safe place for young athletes to play. It delivers measurable environmental benefits that will improve the health and quality of life for the Wappingers Falls community for years to come.
According to Project EverGreen’s Clean Air Calculator, the natural grass field will sequester more than 31,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year, produce enough clean air to benefit nearly 34 people annually, offset the emissions from driving more than 48,000 miles, and generate more than 47,500 cubic yards of clean air every year.
These results demonstrate how investing in healthy green spaces creates lasting environmental value while supporting healthier, more vibrant communities.
