Clearing the Way for Military Families: SnowCare for Troops Celebrates 16 Years

January is Project EverGreen’s SnowCare for Troops Awareness Month

Clearing the way for military families, SnowCare for Troops marks 16 years of volunteer-powered winter support, easing burdens during deployments and harsh weather. During the winter months, snow and ice removal becomes a critical safety and accessibility issue impacting everything from getting children to school to commuting to work or attending medical appointments.

Through Project EverGreen’s mission to support healthy, well-maintained outdoor spaces for communities and deployed military families, the national nonprofit addresses these challenges year-round. Its SnowCare for Troops program serves as the winter counterpart to GreenCare for Troops, ensuring military families receive consistent support in every season.

Project EverGreen - Snow removal

During the winter months, snow and ice removal becomes a critical safety and accessibility issue impacting everything from getting children to school to commuting to work or attending medical appointments..

SnowCare for Troops provides complimentary snow and ice removal services to families of deployed military personnel, offering peace of mind, safety, and continuity during an already demanding time.

Together with national program sponsor BOSS Snowplow, Project EverGreen proudly celebrates National SnowCare for Troops Awareness Month this January 2026 recognizing the thousands of professional contractors and community volunteers who step up each winter to serve military families.

“SnowCare for Troops is a natural extension of our mission and our GreenCare for Troops program,” said Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. “Whether it’s mowing a lawn in the summer or clearing snow in the winter, our goal is the same – helping military families maintain safe, healthy outdoor spaces so they can focus on their families while their loved ones serve.”

16 Years of Year-Round Support for Military Families

Now in its 16th year, SnowCare for Troops has grown far beyond clearing driveways and sidewalks. The program helps military families maintain independence, safety, and normal routines during deployments. Volunteers, including professional snow and landscape contractors, local businesses, and individuals, donate their time, equipment, and expertise to serve those who serve our country.

Together, SnowCare for Troops and its sister program GreenCare for Troops have delivered an estimated $20 million in donated lawn, landscape, and snow removal services to thousands of military families nationwide demonstrating the power of community-driven service.

Delivering Peace of Mind Nationwide

“At BOSS Snowplow, we’re proud to support SnowCare for Troops and the volunteers who make this program possible,” said Katie Roell, senior marketing manager at BOSS Snowplow. “By helping keep homes safe and accessible during winter, we can ease one burden for military families and show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by service members and their loved ones.”
