Twins Host Quarter Auction to Support Our Troops
Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops volunteer J.A.R. Landscaping, LLC, started by twin sisters Jacqueline and Abbigail Stuebs in Athens, Illinois, is going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to supporting our troops.
J.A.R. Landscaping has been volunteering with GreenCare for Troops so that they can give back to the military heroes who have given up their lives to serve our country. However, the Stuebs were eager to do more.
On July 16, J.A.R. Landscaping will be having a quarter auction to support our troops and raise awareness and money for both GreenCare for Troops and Adopt A US Solider, another program the Stuebs support that sends letters and packages to deployed military personnel.
The Stuebs’ auction will have two parts. The first part is where people will be able to purchase a numbered paddle for one dollar when they arrive at the event. Later, when an item is up for auction, everyone will have the choice to bid on the item that is listed for a certain amount of quarters. Those who are bidding will put in their quarters, a number will be drawn, and whoever’s number is called will win the item, which could be anything from a gift basket to a gift card.
After that, a raffle will take place for the second part of the event. For those who have bought raffle tickets, there will be select items on a table and whoever’s ticket number is drawn can choose any one of those items.
“When we started out with these projects, we never anticipated on having any type of fundraising event. It happened quite spontaneously,” says Jacqueline. “We hope to show people that giving back to our troops is important.”
The auction is the perfect fit for the Stuebs since it raises money for our military heroes and gives community members and local businesses the opportunity to get involved. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to Project EverGreen or spent on items to send in packages to our troops overseas, including hygiene products, non-perishable foods, entertainment items and sports equipment.
The sisters have also designed and will be selling t-shirts that feature the GreenCare for Troops logo. The shirts share the message that the Stuebs want everyone to hear: our troops have given up their lives to serve us, so now it’s time for us to serve them.
“The support from J.A.R. Landscaping to Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops is amazing,” says Program Manager Nici Trem, who is thrilled to see the outcome of the quarter auction. “They go above and beyond not only as a volunteer taking care of our registered families with their lawn care, but by bringing awareness to GreenCare for Troops to encourage others to register as volunteers with us.”
