The 21st Snow and Ice Management Association (SIMA) Snow & Ice Symposium was recently held at Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, Ohio and Project EverGreen’s SnowCare for Troops was proudly represented at the event.

Project EverGreen participated in the symposium as a way to spread awareness about the program, connect with current volunteers and recruit new ones to join the initiative that provides complimentary snow and ice removal to families of deployed military personnel and post 9/11 disabled veterans with a service-connected disability. BOSS Snowplow is the platinum sponsor of SnowCare for Troops.

“The SIMA show was a great way for SnowCare for Troops to show support for those who have already dedicated their time and efforts to helping military families in their community and deliver the program’s important message to new volunteers,” says Ki Matsko , program manager for SnowCare for Troops.

Although winter may seem far away as everyone cranks up the air conditioners during the recent nationwide heat wave, Project EverGreen is hard at work recruiting new volunteers and pushing to get volunteers and military families matched before the first snowflake falls.

The show demonstrated how widespread and well-thought of the SnowCare for Troops program is. Volunteers from all parts of the country were in attendance and they had nothing but praise for the program that makes such a difference in the lives of families of deployed military personnel and disabled veterans.

However, the program is not just rewarding for the military families, it is also rewarding for those who volunteer. Darin Smith from Alpine Smith Inc. in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada has been volunteering with SnowCare for Troops since 2010, the year that the program was founded.

He recognizes that giving back to military families is an honor and he appreciates the opportunity to volunteer. He has seen firsthand the positive affect that volunteering has had on him and his company.

Many of those who were recruited at the symposium and signed up to become volunteers right on the spot are inspired to join the program due to personal military connections.

Robert Smart of Smart Scapes/Snow of Olmsted Falls, Ohio believes that there is “nothing greater in the world” than giving back to the military personnel and their families who have given up their lives to serve our country. His uncle served in the Air Force and one of his closest friends was a first-responder for 9/11, so he understands the sacrifice they make on a daily basis to protect the people of America.

Rick Dillaman, owner of Dillaman’s Pave Care in Grove City, Pennsylvania, is another new volunteer who registered at the show.

Dillaman says that he is “more than willing to help whoever needs a hand,” recalling that his friends and those living in his neighborhood would take care of his yard when he was deployed, serving in the Air Force.

If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering for SnowCare or GreenCare for Troops, or knows of a military family or disabled veteran that is in need of services, register online today.
