Band Blitz V is on and Minneapolis area residents are invited to enjoy the music of two popular bands while supporting active-duty military troops through Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops initiative. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Canterbury Park, 1100 Canterbury Road, in Shakopee, Minnesota.
This is the second year at Canterbury Park in Shakopee for this five-year-old fundraiser. It is sponsored by the Shakopee VFW Post 4046 and GreenCare for Troops, a program of Project EverGreen, a national nonprofit organization committed to bringing people together to create healthy green spaces. GreenCare for Troops offers free lawn and landscape services for families of deployed military personnel. Co-sponsoring the event is Shakopee VFW Post 4046, with proceeds from the concert to support the post’s ongoing activities to benefit military members.
“We are excited to partner again with VFW Post 4046 to bring the Band Blitz for the Military to Shakopee,” explained Den Gardner, owner and president of Gardner & Gardner Communications and co-chair, Band Blitz for the Military. “A military family has enough to worry about while a loved one is deployed in active service. Through GreenCare for Troops, lawn care is one less thing they have to deal with, and the proceeds from this terrific concert will help make those services possible. And the service is totally free to the military family.” Hundreds of military families in Minnesota have been part of the nationally-known GreenCare for Troops program.
Featured Bands
The opening act is Little Chicago, a New Prague-based cover horn band playing pop/rock music of the ‘60s and ‘70s. The band performs favorites by such famous performers as Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Grass Roots and more. It has been performing in the Twin City area for 22 years.
The featured band is the Devon Worley Band. The band is popular throughout the Midwest. Its latest album is the “The Sunrise Resistance.” The group brings a “new attitude” to country and rock. Worley and her band are forging their own unique path. It has played at Canterbury Park on several occasions.
“The members of VFW Post 4046 are pleased to join again with GreenCare for Troops to offer Twin City area residents a great night of music under the stars while supporting our post’s ongoing efforts to help military families,” noted AJ Meisinger, new post commander. “As restrictions ease regarding the pandemic, we are excited to bring these two bands together and raise awareness of the importance of our military at home and abroad. We hope area residents come to the concert and show their support for our most deserving military families.”
In addition to the music, a raffle for Toro lawn equipment, plus restaurant certificates, golf packages and much more will be available to bid on throughout the event. Proceeds go directly to the VFW and GreenCare for Troops.
