When Hurricane Sandy left Liberty and Ellis islands under several feet of saltwater, management at national parks was inundated with offers of help. Like most organizations, the national park service had been hit by cutbacks and no longer had the expertise to assess the situation. That’s why Project EverGreen was the perfect fit.
