During this season of giving Project EverGreen partnered with Syngenta Lawn & Garden, Winston-Salem-based Nature’s Select Premium Turf Services, and Greensboro’s New Garden Select Lawn Care to donate a lasting, living gift of giant evergreen trees to the Greensboro Parks & Recreation’s Levette Field and its youth baseball players.
The project, part of Project EverGreen’s nationwide “Healthy Turf. Healthy Kids.” Initiative included planting 11 new giant evergreens, and installing topsoil mix and mulch to insure the trees’ sustainability. The trees will grow to 30 feet, providing a green backdrop to improve the player’s visibility at- bat, increasing their safety, and giving the aspiring athletes an enhanced and improved outdoor play environment.
Nature’s Select and New Garden Select provided labor crews, equipment, and organic materials, with Syngenta Lawn & Garden employees underwriting the costs for the 11 giant evergreen trees, and assisting with the plantings and topsoil and mulch applications.
The donations of materials and services total nearly $2,000, and along with the Penn-Wright Field rehab project in April, Project EverGreen has secured in-kind donations to Greensboro Parks totaling $10,000.
Levette Field hosts nearly 25 Parks and Recreation Youth Baseball games, serving eight teams in the 9-10 year old age category, along with practices for several different age groups’ teams throughout the baseball season, as well as three youth football teams’ practices four times weekly from August to November, totaling more than 200 participating community youth annually.
